POSITION OVERVIEW-

Assists the Chief Estimator with analyzing drawings, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates, budget quotes and quoting of potential projects for precast products or services by performing the following duties.

  • Performs takeoffs from A/E drawings to determine quantities of materials including precast, steel embeds, anchors, rips, cuts, headers, etc. per the RFQ, plans, and specifications for precast products.
  • Computes cost factors and prepares the estimate to include planning, organizing and scheduling production, vendors, subcontractors, and erectors.
  • Carefully review the architectural and structural drawings in conjunction with precast specifications. Consult with inside resources needed to determine the appropriate bidding procedure. Call A/E or GC regarding scope, scheduling, detailing and coordination.
  • Assess overall project for difficulty, risk, size, quality of drawings, scope of work, access, customer, schedule, geographic location, safety requirements, payment terms, shipping, etc. when determining costs.
  •  Assists with including all costs into quote sheet including engineering and detailing, production, shipping, and erection. Work with individual departs to establish cost base.
  • Reviews all internal costs to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data that may affect cost reductions and assure accurate budgeting of future work.
  • Review project costs and quote amount with appropriate Sales staff or Chief Estimator before the final quote is submitted. Complete applicable support documents including bid forms, clarification letters, etc.
  • Generate budgets for small projects involving plank and wall panels.
  • Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
  • Consults with customers, contractors, and vendors to support estimating functions and resolve issues.
  • Work with Project managers to provide support and help resolve issues that may develop during production, shipment or erection.
  • Assist with change orders when necessary.
  • Attend pre/post bid meetings.
  • Complete project start-up paperwork.

QUALIFICATIONS-

  • Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
